On Saturday, June 3rd, over 800 volunteers assisted with beautification of over 50 locations throughout the city as part of Youngstown Streetscape 2017.
What started as a grassroots effort with a handful of passionate volunteers 20 years ago in then-Federal Plaza has grown to become an annual city tradition which involves hundreds of individuals spread throughout many locations in both downtown and the neighborhoods.
The annual project begins with a campaign kickoff in March, a process which involves fundraising, volunteer organizing and event planning in preparation for planting day which takes place the first Saturday after Memorial Day each year. Once planted, CityScape staff then maintains the sites throughout the remainder of the year.
Special thanks to our event sponsors as well as to the local restaurants who provided breakfast and lunch, the hundreds of volunteers who helped planting, Youngstown State University for their connection with students from the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) program, and the Streetscape planning committee members who have made the event run smoothly for 20 years.
